Clock Tower

One of the landmarks of Sivrihisar, Clock Tower is located on the reef in North of the town. It is recorded in the Ankara Yearbook dated H.1318 / 1902 AD that the Clock Tower was ordered to be built by Mahmut Bey, the district governor of the time, and Hacı Mehmet Efendi, the mayor of Sivrihisar, in H.1316 / 1899 AD (Erol Altınsapan).

It is also mentioned in the yearbook that the clock mechanism was brought from Europe.

The clock works with weights and pulses as the number of hours once at halves and as the number of hours twice with one minute intervals twice at fulls.The clock dial is place in a way that it is seen from the entire city.The tower of the clock which is winded twice a week is placed on reefs and has a prismatic shape and is 12 meters long.The tower is accessible through 8-step ladder at the back.There is a barred balcony on the second section of the tower, which consists of three sections placed on top of each other.  There is a dome on top of these three sections. The upper section, which has a keyhole shape, is covered with a flat roof. There is a lightning conductor on top.

Restoration and lighting works were completed in 2015 under the leadership of Hamid Yüzügüllü, the Mayor of Sivrihisar. The tower which gained a unique night view thanks to lighting works is admired by all viewers. Clock towers can be found in many cities in Turkey and old Ottoman lands, and one of the most magnificent among them can be seen in Sivrihisar. Sivrihisar Clock Tower salutes everyone who passes by Sivrihisar with all its glory.
